The App Store on my iMac shows one update as available. I even get notifications that there is an update available. The problem is that the app it says has an update has already been updated and it says 'Installed'. There seems to be no way to get the App Store to remove it from the Updates page. 'Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
